If you begin to crave a little hustle and bustle, the centre of Athens and the Acropolis can be reached within half an hour by car, traffic dependent. Closer to home, there’s the beautiful Lake Vouliagmeni: thermal water set in a dramatic cliff face where the local yiayias go to swim breast stroke at a glacial pace in the early morning, before the crowds arrive. For a little retail therapy, Astir Marina is a ten-minute walk away and full of luxury stores like Dior, Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta.
